My interest in photography spawns from a very old, deep, passionate first love... myself.
I'm not the most self-sufficient, successful, or put-together person, but I have a vanity I disguise with confidence, and vise versa. I have aLways been comfortable having my picture taken, or answering any question about me (self satisfied face here).
As small children, we had such casual imagination. A play set was easily a Pirate ship, where everyone is required to talk in funny accents or jargon. I remember playing 'submarine' and 'secret agents', we would talk gibberish and pretend it was a foreign language. Somehow we just understood each other. When that recess bell rang, right on que I embodied my character and asked around, 'Are you playing?'
I'm still alot like this. I just wanna play pretend. Luckily, I've gotten back in touch with friends who cater to this. I'm not saying we still crawl around on our hands and knees pretending to be dogs and cats, though I'm sure in certain 'arenas'...
When we duck in front, or behind a camera, we can bring our imaginary world to life. Place yourself in any set, time, or scenario. I'm no professional, lacking anY formal education, however, I am slowly (achingly) learning some basic Photoshop. That being said, who's up for some Quidditch practice?
Photoshop is crazy extensive. A skilled shopper, for lack of a better noun, can replicate with such realism, it's hard to trust imagery anymore. I find myself sitting through tutorials hitting pause over and over again to take hand-written notes. It's an art form unto itself.
I would say my interest leans more towards photojournalism, and when I do Photoshop, it will most always be in jest.
I'm proud to be blessed with one of those really amiable, fun, and charming kind of dogs. Our family revolves around our 2yr old dalmatian, Stanley, and if you've ever met him, you'd understand why. Stanley is a real boy. Stan shares my ease in front of the camera, mostly when I'm behind it. That's where his eagerness to please is a blessing to a photographer. He'll work for a laugh and a pat. But since he's so focused on what I'm doing, it's up to me to place a well timed shot. He is definitely my muse.
Get used to this tom foolery. I'm willing to do a great many things, just short of Jackass for that one shot that just makes me laugh.
The problem with this kind of fun, is that it's unreasonably time consuming. Currently, I have more time on my hands than socially acceptable when not living among beatniks and carnies.
You must work hard in the art of being young at heart. Yur dooin it right !
ReplyDeleteThose quiditch photos might actually be the coolest photos I've ever seen.
ReplyDeletehaha, I miss you SO much. Going to Narnia in Burlington Coat Factory with you was one of the best, and most mystical, events of my life! xo
