A Bit Of Tourism

We pass it everytime we head to the airport (MCI) which is not often, but when it takes 3hrs one way to get there, it feels like we've been many times. We also passed it making that epic trek into our new state back in January.

The
Konza Praire Overlook gives you a wondrous viewpoint of the Flint Hills. There's no other place like it in the world, (that isn't made of sand), and I am a little envious of the private planes you often see in the far sky above, with occupants that are surely going to the extreme of obtaining their own tourist pics.

We are headed home from the airport, and it was Eddie's idea to finally get a tourist pic at this overlook. But first...

someone's dog was running loose, chasing grasshoppers, too close to the highway for our dog-loving comfort.

Max was wearing an informative collar.
We notified his parents, who had been hiking the praire when they became seperated.
They advised us the old Chevy was theirs and there would be something to tie him to since it was going to take 20mins to hike up from where they currently were.
We found no such thing and the truck was locked.
Luckily, Max was such an amiable dog, we pal'd around til his folks arrived.

We improvised a leash.

Max's folks made it up out of the praire,
and while their enthusiasm was not on the same par ours certainly would have been,
he was happy to join them, and we grabbed our pic and headed home to our kids.

blog to be continued...

  1. Jeez! I would have been SO relieved you didn't just run over him and go on your merry way! That could have ended quite badly. I love the improvised leash! I now know what to do with all my replaced standard issue camera straps! hahaha

    Miss youuuu!!! xo
