It's been 12 years today, that my grandfather was called home from his fight with cancer.
"A fight", I wrote in a paper in middle school, "he knew he had lost before he'd begun." He left an incredible legacy in the people he loved, saved, and passed his knowledge to. He fed a hunger in people who strove for a higher level of emergency care, and was a key player in obtaining the resources and equipment needed to achieve that care. Leon Hayes helped create the world of EMS that Charles County, and parts of the world, continue to practice and improve upon today. Thank you for paving the way, thank you for sharing. You are loved still today, as you were then, and the loss of you feels like yesterday.
